Overview:Are you interested in joining a dynamic and international team of professionals to transform education? IE University's School of Science & Technology department is looking for an Lab Technician (Segovia) to join its team!IE University is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Laboratory Technician to join an existing team in supporting the operation and development of scientific laboratories on the Segovia campus. This includes day-to-day oversight of multiple lab spaces—ranging from biotechnology and microbiology to geosciences and physics—and coordinating shared materials and equipment used across the Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental DNA–Microbiology, Biogeochemistry, Geo-Biology, and Physics laboratories.The ideal candidate will have a solid academic background in Physics and experience working in laboratory environments that support both teaching and research activities. In addition to managing materials and equipment, the Laboratory Technician will play a key role in facilitating student lab sessions and maintaining compliance with safety protocols. Alongside another Technician, they will ensure that the spaces are technically and operationally ready for use by students and faculty across multiple degree programs, including Bachelor in Environmental Science and Sustainability (BESS), Biotechnology, and an upcoming Industrial Engineering program.This role also includes the opportunity to assist in delivering General Physics courses, contribute to lab instruction, and support the university’s focus on hands-on, interdisciplinary learning. The candidate should be comfortable working across various scientific domains and assisting in both wet-lab and dry-lab settings, including those involving chemical, biological, and analytical processes.The position focuses on maintaining functional, safe, and well-equipped laboratory spaces that meet the pedagogical and research needs of the university community. We are looking for a person to join a full-time position in Segovia.Responsibilities:Your role as a Lab Technician will involve:Laboratory Operations:
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain laboratory spaces and equipment across all Segovia labs.
  • Support the setup and dismantling of practical sessions for courses, including BESS, Biotechnology, and Industrial Engineering.
  • Ensure consumables are stocked and stored appropriately, especially in shared resource areas.
Technical Support:
  • Operate and maintain analytical and preparative equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, ovens, molecular biology workstations).
  • Provide technical assistance to students and faculty during lab sessions.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce and maintain safety protocols and cleanliness in all labs, including handling of chemical and biological materials.
  • Support compliance with university and legal safety regulations.
Academic Support (Physics):
  • Assist or lead practical sessions in General Physics and other Physics-related courses within the Industrial Engineering program.
  • Maintain and calibrate physics lab equipment, and support the integration of multidisciplinary courses.
Coordination and Communication:
  • Liaise with the other Lab Technician, the Lab Manager, and faculty to understand academic and research needs.
  • Contribute to coordinating shared lab schedules and cross-program usage.
Qualifications:To thrive in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant scientific disciplines, preferred in Physics or a related scientific field.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience in academic or research settings (minimum 2 years preferred).
  • Familiarity with biological, chemical, and physical lab environments.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • English proficiency required, Spanish proficiency not required.
  • Prior teaching or teaching-Technician experience in university-level physics courses.
  • Experience in environmental or biotechnological laboratory procedures.
